Iain Cotton stone-letters-sculpture

This final drawing returned to the original design for the outer ring of name and dates and was adjusted to fit the epitaph into the inner ring.

Before I begin to carve I draw the inscription out by hand, full scale, to get the letterforms and their spacing just right, and when I am satisfied, the drawing is transfered to the stone with carbon paper, and carving can commence.
